Homeland
2020 March 1th till May 31th.
Location: Kleinste Galerietje, Hannie Dankbaarpassage 23, de Hallen, Amsterdam.
Especially for the Kleinste Galerietje (Smallest Gallery) I made the installation called 'Homeland'.
In it, amongst others, an egg made out of porcelain. I made it during an artist in residency in Jingdezhen, the porcelain city of China.
An egg as a globe, as methaphor for 'home' and safety.
As I did not have any experience with porcelain, I worked in China together with local crafsmen, each with their own speciallity in working with porcelain.
In Amsterdam I got help from my neighbour and his collegue metalworker. From them I learned how to change the shiny iron underplate into a rusty one, and how to drill holes in it. With that skill I was able to drill the word 'homeland' in different languages in the underplate.
